What East Sussex throws at us
Regency stucco and bow fronts in Brighton and Hove, a lot of it listed. Weatherboard and tile hung cottages through the Weald. And an exposed coastline where wind uplift and salt drive the specification: fixing centres come in, upstands go up, and stainless steel starts to look a lot more sensible than it does thirty miles inland.

Wind uplift on the coast
An exposed south coast roof gets pulled at, not just rained on. Uplift is strongest at the eaves, the verges and the corners, which is exactly where a roof laid to a flat inland specification starts to lift. On coastal work we bring the fixing centres in at the perimeter and detail the clips accordingly. It costs a little more and it is the difference between a roof that lasts and a roof that peels.
East Sussex questions
Stainless steel, and usually terne coated so it looks right on an older building. Salt air is hard on most coverings and on most coatings, and stainless simply is not bothered by it.
Yes, and a lot of it is listed. Terne coated stainless and pre weathered zinc both tend to be acceptable where a bright covering would be refused. We are happy to talk to the conservation officer.
The whole county, out through Hastings to Rye. Larger projects on that side we plan in blocks so the travel makes sense for everybody.
