The whole envelope in one metal

Metal roofs and cladding

Some buildings want the metal to keep going: down the walls, around the dormer cheeks, across the fascias and into the rainwater goods, so the whole thing reads as one wrapped form rather than a roof sitting on a building. That is the work we enjoy most.

Roof and wall as one package

When the roof and the cladding come from two different trades you get two different interpretations of the same detail, and the junction between them is where the arguments and the leaks happen. Doing the whole envelope ourselves removes that. One team, one set of details, one firm responsible.

It also means the fascias, soffits, copings, gutters, hoppers and downpipes can be made from the same coil as the roof, so the colour and the finish match exactly rather than nearly.

Domes, pyramids and spires

Geometry is the part of this trade that keeps it interesting. Domes, pyramids, ogees, cones and spires all need setting out properly before a single sheet is cut, and the difference between a good one and a bad one is visible from the ground.

Our work of this kind is on The British Museum, Great Ormond Street Hospital and The British Library, as well as private houses across the South East.

Dormers and conversions

Loft conversions and dormers are a large part of what we do. A metal clad dormer is lighter than a tiled one, it can be made much slimmer, and it will not need the maintenance that felt and timber cheeks do. We can wrap the cheeks, the roof and the window surrounds in one continuous finish.

Frequently asked questions

Yes, that is a common job. We can match a metal dormer to an existing tiled roof, or wrap a set of dormers on an elevation to tidy up a run of mismatched ones.

Regularly. We have worked on museums, hospitals and libraries as well as offices and developments. We can work around occupied buildings and out of hours where that is needed.

From about 10 square metres up to over a thousand. Below that it is usually a repair, which we also do.
