Metal roofing in South London
South London work tends to be loft conversions and mansards as much as rear extensions. Space is at a premium, everybody is going up as well as out, and a metal clad mansard gives more headroom than a tiled one for the same external height.
Working in South London
South London work tends to be loft conversions and mansards as much as rear extensions. Space is at a premium, everybody is going up as well as out, and a metal clad mansard gives more headroom than a tiled one for the same external height.
We cover Croydon, Clapham, Streatham, Wandsworth, Balham, Tooting and the surrounding areas.
What South London throws at us
Long runs of Victorian and Edwardian terraces, a lot of them already converted once, and plenty of 1930s semis further out towards Croydon. Party wall work is a constant, and a good many of the roofs we are asked to look at have had a previous conversion done badly, with upstands too shallow and flashings dressed straight over the top of old ones.

Putting right a previous conversion
A large share of our South London work is second time round. A loft was converted ten or fifteen years ago, the mansard cheeks were done in something cheap, and now it leaks at the abutment every time the wind comes from the west. Stripping that back and doing it properly in metal is usually cheaper than the third repair, and it is the last time anyone will need to go up there.
South London questions
A lot of them. A metal clad mansard is lighter and slimmer than a tiled one, which can be the difference between getting the headroom you need and not. We can do the cheeks, the roof and the window surrounds as one continuous finish.
That is a job we get asked to do regularly. Water travels, so the stain is often nowhere near the hole. We trace it from inside and out before anybody starts cutting.
If a neighbour has had metal work done and you want yours to match, send a photo. We can normally identify the system and the finish and get very close.
Thinking about a metal roof?
Send over a few details and we will come out, get on the roof and tell you honestly what it needs.
